Bouncy Castle Hire Advice

Bouncy Castle Man Richard Howard shares his top tips that will help you find a legitimate bouncy castle hirer in your area...

(1) Check to see if the hirer is a member of the BIHA (British Inflatable Hirers Alliance) or TIPE either by asking them, visiting their website or going to the websites of these organisations. These schemes have a code of ethics that all bouncy castle hire operators have to abide by to remain members and because these are paid memberships is a good indication to show that they're a serious operator.

(2) Ask whether they have FULL Public Liability Insurance* on their units. You need a least £1m of coverage and need to be careful of the terms that the insurance does and doesn't cover. For instance some insurance will exclude places that serve alcohol, many restrict what areas equipment can go on and some terms have age limits for inflatable's and so it's worth knowing what insurance and terms they are on.

(3) Find out whether the hirer provides pegs, safety mats, rain covers etc and also ask how old their equipment is. If it's above 5yrs old then it may look rather well used and be prone to being torn frequently which may not only mean that they could charge you for the damage but could also cause an injury if the equipment has past it's best.

(4) Try get some indication of what others say about the hirer. So have a look to see if you can find an extensive range of "Customer Comments" also you could trying Googling their business and seeing what people have said about them in local blogs, forums etc. Remember the comments on their website are always going to be positive!

(5) Find out if their staff are CRB checked (criminal records bureau) this does a background check on the individual and lets you know if they've been convicted of anything. This is not just important in relation to kids parties but also useful for other events as if the guy was a previously a convicted of being a burglar and you're letting him in your house....

(6) Have a look at their About Us page or try and see how long they've been around. I don't want to be unfair to the newbees but there are LOADS of people each year who think that it's a great idea to get a couple of castles and some do a good job other double book, forget to turn up, give up or just cant be bothered. Not all but some.

(7) Reframe from paying for everything in advance. Have all/most of the money payable on delivery rather than sending a cheque or paying via card in advance.

I hope these tips have been useful and if you're in the South East London / Kent area I hope you'll consider Bouncy Parties for your provider of inflatable's. We provide a professional, reliable and friendly service.

* Remember you need to ensure that your household insurance covers you against accidents should you not be hiring someone to man the castle along with the equipment you're getting from them.
